CIA World Factbook assignment
Today in class we reviewed our CIA assignment we did yesterday. Today we listed different facts that we found about countries, people, and different economies and discussed them through out class. Some of the facts that we discussed were most deaths by AIDS, highest and lowest human fertility rate, population in the highest and lowest countries/nations, and the work force of the highest and lowest countries/nations. The highest work force we saw was in China and we saw that it had a work force of 806,700,000 people. That's a little less than three times the size of America. The lowest work force is in the Pitcairn Islands with a work force of 15 people. The work force in America has 160,400,000 people and we are ranked the fourth highest in the whole world.

CIA World Fact-book Assignment
1. When I was looking at Greenland on the physical map of North America. It looked as if it was the Mercaders map they were using. I found this interesting because you would think the CIA would want the world map to be accurate. This relates to what we were talking about in class. It relates to when we talked about map distortion and the whole class immediately thought their life is a lie.
2. I went onto the population segment of the website and found China and India have over a billion people populating the two countries. The thing is these countries are both poor and aren't very clean. This relates to what we talked about in class when we discussed population. The countries that can't afford to many people usually have more people than they can afford.
3. Nigeria has had 160,000 AIDS deaths in 2016. This relates to conversation in class. We discussed that other countries don't have as good of a medical treatment than others. This results in more deaths that could have been prevented if they had enough medical treatment.
4. 36% of American citizens are obese. This was also a topic of conversation in a class. The amount of people who eat when they are bored is a lot, the portion sizes are very large compared to other countries as well.
5. 3.90 of U.S. individuals out of 1,000 are migrants. We discussed this in class a few days ago. We talked about how the U.S. population is still rising when the fertility rate is only 2.01.

Measuring Population
The crude birth rate is the number of births per one thousand of the population and crude death rate is pretty much the same thing except, well..., with death. The rate of Natural Increase, RNI, is produced from subtracting death rate from birth rate. This gives us the annual natural growth rate - in percentage form - for a country or region. But, you can not forget about migration! The Net Migration rate is the difference between the number of persons entering and leaving a country a year. Immigration is when an excess of persons enters a country. The opposite of that is called emigration. Emigration is when an excess of persons leave a country. Immigration is written as a positive number (6.65), and emigration is written as a negative number (-3.94). People migrate due to push forces like civil war, environmental deg-ration, etc. People also migrate due to pull forces as well. Some of those pull forces are better health services, political freedom, freedom of religion, etc.

Average Life-Span
Life is what your living now and death is inevitable. In some places in the world, people tend to live longer than others. Like in a clean city like Dubai, The people there will tent to live longer because of how clean it is. In places like Chinese cities where there are so many factories, people can't even see the stars because of all the pollution. America is placed on the forty-second longest life expectancy in the whole world. I wonder why that is. It is because we are lazy and we eat way to much than we should. If we did anything to stop this we could be the number one state that has the longest life expectancy. Not to mention, America is the number one country with the most heroin addicts and users. In so many other countries, they do not use cars, they do not over eat, and they do not have as many drug addicts.

Population
I think we will have fun in this unit. I love seeing all of the world population and how fast the whole world gets populated on the world population clock. I've always love those things. To me they are just so interesting. I mean, someone out there in the world had to come up with that estimate and pattern, they had to calculate every single person in the whole world and put all of that into one little thing. But at the same time, that little thing I mentioned is huge at the same time. As of the date I am writing this blog, (October 23, 2018), Over 7.5 BILLION people live on this great earth. It took human kind since the beginning of time to get to where we are right now. The year that the worlds population just peaked over 1 billion people was just in the year 1804. 1804! In all of time, that is not that long ago. And now, it took over 200 years to get to 7 billion people. Again, not a lot of time. From the year 1804, it took 123 years to get to only 2 billion people. Ever since then, the elapsed years have gotten shorter and shorter. It went from 123 years to only 33. From 33 to 14, 14 to 13, 13 to 12, 12 to 12 again. That's fast! Like you said today in class, there are still people living on this earth when there where only 2 billion people populating our home. Every year, approximately 73 million people are born every year. With the trend of the elapsed years it took getting smaller and smaller, eventually there will be a time that every 1 year, there will be 1 billion new people on this earth. The thing is, the rate at which people are being born and people are dying, the deaths in the world are slower than the births (I don't know if that sentence made any sense but hopefully you get what I'm trying to say). This means that there will always be a growth in population, unless there is a serious apocalyptic event that happens sometime in the future. But that's a story for another day.

Test
We had another test today! I do feel a lot more confident about this one. It was about the early map making and GPS (global positioning system). So basically it was about everything we talked about in the "Why is Each Point on Earth Unique" unit. The thing is, I forgot to bring my Human Geography notebook home because in my mind I figured I didn't need it because I had already done my blog in my free period, like I am doing now. So... when I got home I thought to myself, "I'll study before bed," because that's when your brain can absorb and keep more information. But, when I opened my book bag, to my surprise, no notebook, then I realized my mistake and became all depresso espresso... Then, before your class (Mr. Shick's) and Advisory, I had to present my song and say my speech to the class. My dad and I listen to the song when he drives me to this great school, the song is called GET UP by Shinedown. Awesome artist, I really do recommend some of his other songs like special, THE HUMAN RADIO, MONSTERS, CREATURES, BULLY, ASKING FOR IT, CUT THE CORD, and SOUND OF MADNESS. Anyways, I am glad I am able to do this blog now because I have a four hour thing for my Leadership Team at my Tae Kwon Do. I have to help out with the belt ceremony for the lower belts that tested this week. I test for my 5th star for my black-belt at ten o-clock a.m. tomorrow morning. I will become a 2nd degree black-belt in February.

Test review 2.0
I liked today's review. I think I now know why not a lot of teachers play class games now. Everyone was yelling so much and I hate class games because I get so stressed and then I forget everything I need to know. Like today, as soon as the team captain looked at me, my social anxiety kicked in and I was on the verge of a mental breakdown. When it was time to go up in front, I could have gotten the answer easily but every one started yelling at me (If you haven't noticed, I don't do well under pressure). It was fun to watch everyone rage though. In Demetries little "Do you wanna get an A" game, we reviewed things like the four types of map distortion, relative location, exact place, topanyms, geographical grids, ect. I could tell you (Mr. Shick) where sort of into it in the beginning but towards the end you got really annoyed by all the yelling.

Test Review
We have a test on Friday! Today, in class, we reviewed and also, helped you make our own test. The same test we are making is the same test we will be taking on Friday. We reviewed the Prime Meridian, (0 degrees longitude), and other things like time zones, and I'll say it now, Thank you so much for letting it be open map. Now, we did not do much today, that was all, AND, I have a story to tell. So, on Friday, I got a two year old dog, that has severe separation anxiety... He was fine all of the rest of Friday but the next morning, after my Tae Kwon Do, we came home to find him gone, and a giant, dog sized hole, in my window... two stories high! Apparently, he jumped out of my window, trying to jump to the roof, missed and fell... and survived! He is all okay with no broken bones and no scratches. we found him all the way in sunshine.

Regions of Culture
First of all, what is culture? Culture is the body of customary beliefs, material traits, and social forms that together constitute the distinct tradition of a group of people. The origin of the word culture is the Latin cultus, which means "to care for." The two meanings of culture are "to care for," and, "to care about." Geographers study both different types of culture, what people care about, and what people care for. What do they study in the "...care about," category? These scientists study, "why the customary ideas, beliefs, and values of a people produce a distinct culture in a particular place." They study why the peoples important cultural values derive from a certain cultures language, to what they believe in. The second category in culture that geographers study is what the people take care of. This interacts with the production of wealth, such as, food, clothing, shelter and what those people need to "survive and thrive."

First Pop Quiz
Yay... I didn't do so good... BUT, I have an excuse. To be fair, it was my first ever Pop Quiz. You only gave us fifteen seconds when that was our first ever pop quiz. ANYWAYS. Going away from the topic of excuses and stupid Pop Quizzes, lets talk about other matters like what else we did in class. liiiiike a Functional Region and a Vernacular region. A Functional Region is an area organized around a node of foeal point. The characteristics chosen to define a functional region dominates at a central focus or node and diminishes in importance outward. A Vernacular Region is an area that people believe exists as part of their cultural identity.

Why is Each Point on Earth Unique?
First of all... what is the definition of Unique? The exact definition I found was, "being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else." Now that that is over with, I honestly really enjoyed that class. I honestly learned things when (I don't remember his Name:(, ) the second kid went up to help teach. When Hank went up, it was just entertaining. You might have to go back to that slide because of Hanks horrible teaching(heh). But before you let the two students help out, we talked about toponyms. Toponyms, are the names given to places on earth like, California, Nigeria, Maryland, New England, ect. We then went into Site. The Site, is a physical characteristic of a place. Some of these characteristics include the weather, climate, water sources, soil, topography, vegetation, latitude, and elevation. The Situation of a place is the location of a place, that is relative to other places. Then Hank went into region and did okay explaining region and the next student you let teach made you say "he is now going after my job", or something like that.

Elbort Hubbord Test Review
Today... We... Got... our Tests Back! I did okay, I got a B and I'm okay with it. I really do like the essay I wrote too. I did essay A and Got a forty out of forty! The essay I wrote was on Socrates' trial and death. I started with "Socrates was a Greek Philosopher and is one of the most well known philosophers in Ancient History." I then began with how he fought heroically in the Pelipanesian war. I then started on how he taught the young adolescence of Athens about how to critically think and illuminate ideas. Unfortunately, the Athens government did uncover the truth about Socrates. I wrote, "they put him on trial with a five hundred male jury and accused him of corruption of Athens youth and impiety." The way they where going to kill him was by Hemlock which basically made the consumer drown on land. I told the reader, "The thing is, he was so loyal to the Athens government that when he had the chance to escape with his friends, he would not take it. The only thing he did take was a horrible death."

Location and Tracking
So... People can Track you down, kidnap, torture, and murder you... all because we use satellite and we allow our mobile devices to have our locations shared in any type of app or social media. Okay okay, I know that's not how people normally start but did I grab your attention... Hey! Don't look away now this is important stuff right here... Ahh Ah- There we go. Now I can start. Applications on our smart phones and any device, They Are Amazing! I mean, you can set a destination into your device and then it will take you the fastest, turn-by-turn, directions to that exact place. This satellite imaging can help Pilots AND ship Captains get to where they need to be, and safely. Some of the bad parts of these applications can be that people can track you down and rob, kidnap, and even murder you, just by using your favorite social media app. Even Alexa and Google Home can betray your trust because they are listening to you at ALL times. Say your a murderer and you go to someones place to... well... you know, all of that sound can be used against you because the government can go and listen to what was said during your scene...
