Regions of Culture

First of all, what is culture? Culture is the body of customary beliefs, material traits, and social forms that together constitute the distinct tradition of a group of people. The origin of the word culture is the Latin cultus, which means "to care for." The two meanings of culture are "to care for," and, "to care about." Geographers study both different types of culture, what people care about, and what people care for. What do they study in the "...care about," category? These scientists study, "why the customary ideas, beliefs, and values of a people produce a distinct culture in a particular place." They study why the peoples important cultural values derive from a certain cultures language, to what they believe in. The second category in culture that geographers study is what the people take care of. This interacts with the production of wealth, such as, food, clothing, shelter and what those people need to "survive and thrive."
