Map Labeling
I guess I liked today's class. The beginning was certainly... entertaining? You don't want to know, it wasn't bad but, ya know. Then... then the class got really easy and... a bit boring. Now, I love your class and enthusiasm but when you talk about the same easy subject(Maps), you get tiered of it. The last part of the class was SO easy. You gave us three maps, the Mercadors, Peters, and the Robinson projection maps. The class was to label the three maps. We needed to label them with where the equator is, the Tropic of Cancer and Capricorn, the Prime Meridian, the nation of your origin, all seven continents, all five oceans, the International Date Line, and the John Carroll School. To be honest, it was not hard at all. All we had to do was write, draw, and look up the things we did not know. So... I still enjoyed class but it was the topic and things that we did today were... okay.

Maps and Time Zones
I will be honest here. I did kind of enjoy today's class buuuuuutttttt... towards the end I found myself kind-of drifting of and daydreaming a little. I found myself wondering what the time is and when will class be over. But in my defense for that last part, I am obsessed to know the time and when I don't know it or can't see it, it drives me absolutely crazy. Today we talked more about maps and how they will never be perfect. But changing the topic (Thankfully) to the different time zones. I find it kind of interesting that people thought it made more sense to make absolute midnight and mid-day 12:00. Also, when it hits 12:00 at night, those three hands signal the start of the next day, from Tuesday to Wednesday. Doesn't it make more sense to make 1:00 the start of the next day... or the opposite. Well... it apparently made sense to civilization back then and we have all grown up with the way it is so I'm fine with it and so are a lot of other people.

The West Wing Cartographers
The Cartographers for social equality states that they want the president to strongly support having every public school in America to teach geography using the Peters Projection Map. They say this because the map that everyone normally uses and teaches with, is totally inaccurate. On the Mercator map, Greenland, Africa, South America, and a number of other places are to small or to big. On the Mercator map, Greenland is 1/2 the size of Africa, when in reality, Greenland is 1/8 of the size it is on the Mercator. They also state that Alaska is twice the size of Mexico. They also tell us, "Nothing is where we think it is." They state that, like we talked about in class a few days ago, we could flip a map upside down and nothing would change. So... again, these cartographers want the president to "aggressively" support their opinion on why the Peters Projection Map really should be used in everyday, public school, geography classrooms.

Inaccuracy of the Most used map EVER
Honestly, I loved today's class Mr. Shick. I really did find it quite interesting that that map we all are used to... is totally inaccurate. And I'm all about that stuff, like with the dinosaurs in the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World trilogy, Like how all the Veloceraptors in the movies are about ten times the real size of one. As much as I want to talk about all of the movie mistakes and how things being inaccurate drives me crazy... wait... I just did... whoops. Anyways, movieing( Ha ha ha...) away from that subject, where... where we... ah yes, the most used map in the world, the Mercator map, is inaccurate, and we are letting OUR children be LIED to by some of the most important people, OUR TEACHERS, that we can TRUST and RELY on. Now.. come on... I know that the most accurate map in the world, still is not the most accurate, But... we humans could never get it exactly because of the curvature of the Earth. This ,upside down, Peters map below us is the most accurate map in the whole wide world. This, is the map that we should be showing to our mothers, fathers, children, grandmothers and grandfathers... but most importantly... yourself.

CARTOGRAPHY IN THE 276 B.C.E. - 194 B.C.E
Cartography is the science of map making. But... because we did not have maybe over 100 satellites orbiting the Earth taking rapid pictures, the maps back in the olden day where not always so accurate... Now, don't get me wrong here, there where some people that did get pretty gosh darn close. But because modern civilization didn't have these satellites, we could never get it precise. The earliest maps were just for references, that means they were only for people who needed to get from point A to point B. The map shown above is the first ever map of the Mediterranean sea, and the word Mediterranean means - Middle of the Earth, The Greeks actually thought that the Mediterranean Sea was actually the middle of the world, this though most likely led them to think the world is flat. The map was also created by a man named Eratosthenes but later improved by a man named Ptolemy, and then even later, advancements in cartography where made outside of Europe by the Chinese and Islamic world. The map below was made by Ptolemy. After that and many years later, cartography was revived during the Age of Exploration and Discovery.

Da First Test "DUN DUN DUN"
We had a test today... yay... it was actually really easy. In the beginning, it was all just simple multiple choice, so that was easy, whoop. then it got a bit harder and i still think I did pretty well on the second part... except the second crime accusation, i may or may not have forgotten the word but now I'm allowed to look at me notes aaannnnnd... its impiety... DANG IT. The essay was fairly easy as well because I actually paid attention in class because you are an interesting creature. Let me finish this at home now. Although I didn't study... I think I only missed three questions??? I don't know. Overall i think I did pretty well

Easy class of short review
Today, we did not do much, all we did was review Socrates trial and death sentence. After that we talked about Hemlock and how it was mainly found in north Africa and now it can be found in many different places. We talked about the test and essay that we will do/take. And that was honestly it... After doing that all we did was talk about random things like what is happening on Friday the 21 and Thursday the 20th (and yes I said that backwards to annoy my readers Mwahahahahahahahah cough cough). Then you (Mr. Shick) let us work on our blogs and you made fun of peoples titles, heh. Then I went on with my day, went home, bought Shadow of the TombRaider, Now I am finishing up and ending this blog on September fifteenth at 4:31.

Ancient Greece and Socrates
As a young man, the Greek Philosopher, who as a kid worked as a stone mason. He started out from that to one of the most well know Greek Philosophers in history! As time passed and Socrates grew older, he fought heroically in the Peloponnesian War. The Peloponnesian War (431–404 BC) was an ancient Greek war fought by the Delian League led by Athens against the Peloponnesian League led by Sparta. Socrates wasn't given any thing, if he wanted something, he earned it. His working class background and battlefield experiences may have shaped the way he viewed the world. As a volunteer teacher, he met with the youth of Athens and he would ask a question, they would answer, and he would then ask a follow up question to their answer. These questions would be how his students felt about something like what do you think about our Gods(Greek Gods), or do you think they exist. When higher authorities found out about his teachings, he was charged with two crimes. #1, Corruption of Athens Youth, and #2, Impiety. When his defense came he could have just said sorry but he said, and i quote from class, "It's my job to be the gad fly to the lazy, sluggish horse that is Athens" and "I should actually be rewarded with free dinners for life." A jury of 500 male citizens voted guilty on his trial (279 people voted guilty and 221 people voted innocent). His sentence was death to drinking the Hemlock poison that kills you in about an hour by making you drown on land. He had the opportunity to escape but refused in doing so to show his loyalty to the city of Athens.

Arete and Random Talking and then Some More Importance
Arete(Accent over last e), the Greek word for excellence. But... What is Excellence? Excellence, is something extremely good or outstanding. Arete, is described as any kind of excellence, moral virtue, fulfillment of any purpose or function, and mostly the act of living up to ones full potential. Arete involves all of the abilities and potentialities available to humans. That highest human potential being knowledge itself. We have evolved so much, we started from monkeys who had the smarts to think, "Hey, when I bang this rock against that rock, it makes something pointy!" Now I am are sitting here at home, typing up this blog, on a COMPUTER, that was once a bunch of parts, before that metal and other things. After i finish this i am going to play either TitanFall2 or Jurassic World Evolution, on an Xbox, which is an advanced form of entertainment. Now, before I get to into evolution and end up in dinosaurs and how much they relate to birds and how one-third of dinosaur species may not even be real (babies and adults do not look alike)(This is what I mean), let me get into the Agoras and Polisies. What are Agoras and Polisies? An Agora is a gathering place, market place, or the center of life in a highly populated area. A Polis is a Political entry ruled by their bodies of citizens. Ancient Greece was the first place where the people where allowed to vote and make decisions for themselves. It is the first time in recorded history a people had revolted against their rulers! It was a huge turning point in history!!!

The second day of Garcia
So, when was the essay published and how many copies have been sold? The dissertation was published and sold by the year of 1899, during the Spanish American war. So that is what this essay is about, the american president, McKinly, trying to send a message to a Spanish war general, Garcia. There have been over 40 million copies sold so about 1/5 people had this essay on the adolescent. This dissertation was printed in 37 different languages and "A Message to Garcia" became a popular slang, in fact, they still make you read the essay in war camps to this day. The day of September 14th, 1901 was the day of the assassination of president McKinley, the act was done by an anarchist. Originally, the essay was published as a book and pamphlet, it was sent all accost the world and was given out from business bosses to there employees as like a pep talk or something like that.

"A Message to Garcia" What I Think
So... "A Message to Garcia." In, "A Message to Garcia," Elbort Hubbord is trying to make a point, that point being... he does not care for the adolescent. In his short, three... no, not even, two and about two or three tenths of a page story, the main character/person is trying to sent a letter to someone in cuba, but the thing is... no one knows of his location... The character Rowen travels to Cuba in search of Garcia but he is totally clueless as to what he is doing. Then someone points out a book keeper that would surely do it but the man says he would most likely stop at about four saloons on the way to town, and by the time he would get there, he would have already forgotten what he was doing. Than the main character remembers of a fine man that could do it but the only problem with him is that he would say "Why don't you take it yourself." I think Elbort is trying to express that most millennial population can tend to be Forgetful, Distracted, to Shy, Clueless, and that most tend to Backtalk people. I do agree with Elbort on some of these traits even though I am an adolescent figure as well. Most kids these days are to distracted with their phones, its hard for me right now that I can't pick up my phone right now and watch YouTube like I did all summer. But he and other people that hate the youth have o remember that they too, were once a young figure that did what all other kids do.

The First day at Jc
On my first day of school at John Carrol, as a patriot, I could not love this school and its teachers anymore (except for algebra and Mr. Kimble's class). First I went to my Biology class and liked Mr. Grzanna, hes a good teacher but seems very nervous quite a lot ( Pronounced John-uh). Then I had an off period so i just sat down in a random spot in the cafeteria and Mr. Miller came up to me and talked with me. he is a very nice man AND also my third cousin, sometimes things in families are weird. Then after advisory I went to Mr. Chalk's, English class and i don't really like English much except the free writing but hes a pretty cool teacher. I went to lunch then went to Mr. Kimble's Intro to Bible class, and just the atmosphere and tone in that class makes it feel like its going to be a boring year in that class of his. Up next was your class(Mr. Schick) and I do think its going to be fun this year. The mood and tone that you gave us today was great. It really makes me look forward to your class this year Mr. Schick. Last but certainly not least, Mr. Canters German class. The energy that was given to the class was really up there. The way he teaches and is more down to earth and hes just so full of energy after a long day of teaching. And then i went home and now I'm writing this and stopping no...
