CARTOGRAPHY IN THE 276 B.C.E. - 194 B.C.E

Cartography is the science of map making. But... because we did not have maybe over 100 satellites orbiting the Earth taking rapid pictures, the maps back in the olden day where not always so accurate... Now, don't get me wrong here, there where some people that did get pretty gosh darn close. But because modern civilization didn't have these satellites, we could never get it precise. The earliest maps were just for references, that means they were only for people who needed to get from point A to point B. The map shown above is the first ever map of the Mediterranean sea, and the word Mediterranean means - Middle of the Earth, The Greeks actually thought that the Mediterranean Sea was actually the middle of the world, this though most likely led them to think the world is flat. The map was also created by a man named Eratosthenes but later improved by a man named Ptolemy, and then even later, advancements in cartography where made outside of Europe by the Chinese and Islamic world. The map below was made by Ptolemy. After that and many years later, cartography was revived during the Age of Exploration and Discovery.
