The West Wing Cartographers
The Cartographers for social equality states that they want the president to strongly support having every public school in America to teach geography using the Peters Projection Map. They say this because the map that everyone normally uses and teaches with, is totally inaccurate. On the Mercator map, Greenland, Africa, South America, and a number of other places are to small or to big. On the Mercator map, Greenland is 1/2 the size of Africa, when in reality, Greenland is 1/8 of the size it is on the Mercator. They also state that Alaska is twice the size of Mexico. They also tell us, "Nothing is where we think it is." They state that, like we talked about in class a few days ago, we could flip a map upside down and nothing would change. So... again, these cartographers want the president to "aggressively" support their opinion on why the Peters Projection Map really should be used in everyday, public school, geography classrooms.
